Electron Microscopy for Materials and where there is one or more microscopy platform. Some nodes are part of the institutions who originally submitted for funding with the Canadian Foundation for Innovation, in 2017, which are University of Sherbrooke, McGill University, Polytechnique Montr\u00e9al, University of Montr\u00e9al, Concordia University, Laval University and \u00c9cole de technologie sup\u00e9rieure. Other partner institutions can be added as RQMEM nodes with the approval of the RQMEM board of directors. <\/p>\n\n\n<div data-spectra-id=\"spectra-mr9ibe4f-4h83kl\"\tstyle=\"overflow: visible;--spectra-background-color: var(--ast-global-color-5)\" class=\"spectra-is-root-container alignfull spectra-overlay-color spectra-overflow spectra-background-color wp-block-spectra-container\" data-orientation=\"vertical\"\t>\n\t\n\n<h4 id=\"Mcgill\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">McGill<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">FEMR (Facility for Electron Microscopy Research) and MEMRG (McGill Electron Microscopy Research Group) are microscopy platforms members of the Quebec Network of electron microscopy for materials and bring together a diversified expertise with many microscopists collaborating with the Network.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">FEMR is a platform that serves material science and biological science with expertise in tomography, molecular reconstruction and 3D vizualisation.<br>MEMRG holds the expertise for X ray quantification, materials and batteries analysis.<\/p>\n\n\n<div data-spectra-id=\"spectra-mr9ilqgg-cr4uh5\" affili\u00e9 au groupe de recherche sur la microscopie \u00e9lectronique&nbsp;de McGill (McGill Electron&nbsp;Microscopy&nbsp;Research&nbsp;Group, MEMRG,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.memrg.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>www.memrg.com<\/em><\/a>),&nbsp;dirig\u00e9 par le professeur Raynald Gauvin.&nbsp;En plus d\u2019assurer la gestion op\u00e9rationnelle des \u00e9quipements et la supervision des projets de recherche des \u00e9tudiants du groupe en lien avec le professeur, il a \u00e0&nbsp;c\u0153ur&nbsp;de&nbsp;d\u00e9velopper des techniques innovantes, autant dans le domaine de la pr\u00e9paration d\u2019\u00e9chantillons que dans la caract\u00e9risation de mat\u00e9riaux divers&nbsp;par microscopie \u00e9lectronique \u00e0 balayage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Nicolas a obtenu un Dipl\u00f4me Universitaire de Technologie&nbsp;(DUT), option Mesures-Physiques, \u00e0 l\u2019universit\u00e9 Paris XI \u00e0 Orsay, France, en 1997.&nbsp;Apr\u00e8s avoir perfectionn\u00e9 ses techniques d\u2019analyses et de recherches en tant que technicien de laboratoire dans divers laboratoires, il a obtenu un Master&nbsp;en Science et G\u00e9nie des Mat\u00e9riaux par validation des acquis professionnels \u00e0 l\u2019universit\u00e9 Paris-Saclay, Orsay, France, en 2018.&nbsp;Durant&nbsp;les&nbsp;seize&nbsp;ann\u00e9es&nbsp;qu\u2019il a pass\u00e9es&nbsp;au MEMRG, Nicolas a eu \u00e0&nbsp;c\u0153ur&nbsp;de pousser les limites des microscopes \u00e9lectroniques \u00e0 balayage (MEB)&nbsp;sous sa supervision&nbsp;afin d\u2019am\u00e9liorer&nbsp;la r\u00e9solution en imagerie&nbsp;et la qualit\u00e9 d\u2019image mais aussi&nbsp;pour&nbsp;utiliser les d\u00e9tecteurs&nbsp;\u00e9quipant&nbsp;ces instruments \u00e0 leur plein potentiel. RQMEM is proud to have access to her expertise in  transmission electron microscopy (TEM), electron energy-loss spectroscopy (EELS), electron tomography, and nanomaterials characterization (i.e. plasmonics materials).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">She received her B.S. in Materials Science and Engineering from Beihang University and her M.S. in Materials Engineering from the University of Southern California. His expertise includes Microcrystal Electron Diffraction (MicroED), scanning transmission electron microscopy (STEM), energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS), electron energy-loss spectroscopy (EELS), electron tomography, and cryogenic electron microscopy. He is particularly interested in developing new workflows that expand the capabilities of electron microscopy and make advanced techniques more accessible to the scientific community. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Angel Valdez holds a Ph.D. in Energy and Materials Science from INRS in Quebec. He subsequently joined McGill University, where he currently works as a Research Associate at FEMR. His research focuses on developing innovative electron microscopy methodologies. In addition to research, he enjoys supporting users providing technical and training support, teaching microscopy techniques, and organizing workshops and presentations that help researchers make the Son expertise comprend la caract\u00e9risation des biomat\u00e9riaux et des nanoparticules, l\u2019analyse des surfaces et des interfaces ainsi que la microscopie \u00e9lectronique avanc\u00e9e.\u00a0Depuis 2025, elle contribue de fa\u00e7on importante \u00e0 la mise en place du service de cryo-microscopie \u00e9lectronique en transmission (cryo-TEM) au Centre de recherche du CHU de Qu\u00e9bec\u2013Universit\u00e9 Laval (collaboration entre le BIMlab et la Plateforme de Bio-imagerie).\u00a0Ses travaux portent notamment sur la visualisation et la caract\u00e9risation de mat\u00e9riaux biologiques et de mat\u00e9riaux mous, tels que les v\u00e9sicules extracellulaires, les liposomes, les particules de type viral, les hydrogels, les nanoparticules et les tissus tumoraux, \u00e0 l\u2019aide de la cryo-microscopie \u00e9lectronique et de techniques compl\u00e9mentaires de caract\u00e9risation et de m\u00e9thodes avanc\u00e9es d\u2019analyse d\u2019images.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Samira d\u00e9tient un doctorat en g\u00e9nie des mat\u00e9riaux de l\u2019Universit\u00e9 Laval, avec une sp\u00e9cialisation en biomat\u00e9riaux. Au cours de ses \u00e9tudes doctorales, elle a travaill\u00e9 sur la modification de surfaces et la caract\u00e9risation d\u2019endoproth\u00e8ses cardiovasculaires et d\u2019implants osseux. Elle a \u00e9galement re\u00e7u une formation sp\u00e9cialis\u00e9e \u00e0 la plateforme de recherche en microscopie \u00e9lectronique (FEMR) de l\u2019Universit\u00e9 McGill en microscopie \u00e9lectronique en transmission \u00e0 haute r\u00e9solution, appliqu\u00e9e \u00e0 la caract\u00e9risation de nanoparticules \u00e0 base de terres rares. Since 2021, he is responsible for <a href=\"https:\/\/microscopie.ibis.ulaval.ca\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">the imaging and microscopy platform IBIS at University Laval<\/a>. While hosted in a life science institute, this platform welcomes many groups and projects in material science. There is a TEM, a SEM, a sample preparation and ultra-microtomy service, a histology service and many optical microscopes with high resolution.
