How to get access to RQMEM's electron microscopes?

While knowing which electron microscope works for your needs, contact the node microscopiste written on the microscope's page.

If which electron microscope best meets your needs is not known, contact the network coordinator to be redirected.

Who can access RQMEM's electron microscopes?

The Quebec Network of Electron Microscopy of Materials' microscopes are available to everyone. Being a RQMEM member is not needed to get access to the electron microscopes.

What is the procedure to book time on a RQMEM electron microscope?

The procedure to book time on the electron microscopes vary depeding on which platform the electron microscope belongs to. You can contact the person responsible for the microscope. This person is specified on the microscope's page , or you can contact the network coordinator.

Who are RQMEM's partner universities?

The Quebec Network of Electron Microscopy for Materials' participating universities are : Univeristy of Sherbrooke, Laval University, University of Montréal, Polytechnique Montréal, Concordia, École de Technologie Supérieure, and McGill University.

My institution is not one of RQMEM's partner universities, can I still get access to the electron microscopes?

Yes, the Quebec Network of Electron Microscopy for Materials' electron microscopes are available to everyone.

What are the microscopy platform collaborating with the RQMEM?

The Quebec Network of Electron Microscopy for Material's nodes host microscopy platforms. These platforms are partof RQMEM because some of their equipments were funded by RQMEM :

  • Facility for Electron Microscopy Research (FEMR) at McGill

  • McGill Electron Microscopy Research Group (MEMRG)

  • Concordia Materials Characterization Platform (CMCP)

  • Laboratoire d'ingénierie des produits, procédés et systèmes (LIPPS) at ETS

  • 3IT.Materiasl at University of Sherbrooke

  • Courtois Institute at University of Montreal

  • Cebter fir Microscopic Characterization of Materials (CM)2, at Polytechnique Montréal

What are the prices to use the electron microscopes?

The prices to use Quebec Network of Electron Microscopy for Materials' electron microscopes depend on which equipment is to be used. For scientists from member institutions (McGill, Polytechnique Montreal, Concordia University, University of Sherbrooke, University of Montreal, ÉTS, Laval University), the internal costs are always used for electron microscopes that were funded by RQMEM, no matter where is the electron microscope used.

How to contact someone about accessing on the RQMEM's electron microscope?

Each electron microscope has someone to contact in case of questions. The Quebec Network of Electron Microscopy of Materials' coordinator can also redirect your question to the right person. You can contact the coordinator by email : rqmem@usherbrooke.ca

What are the available training in electron microscopy of materials?

For general training on electron microscopy, consult ressources' page that lists webinars, university courses and documentation that the Quebec Network of Electron Microscopy of Materials offers.

The RQMEM organizes ponctual training events. To know what are the upcoming events, consult the news page. Also, every year, during spring, we organize a microscopy summer school.

How to be informed about the next networking event for research scientists that use electron microscopes?

Information on upcoming events are promoted on social media and in the newsletter. Make sure not to miss anything by following us on LinkedIn and subscribing to the Newsletter.

Is there a place to talk with other experts in electron mciroscopy of materials to help each other out and solve problems?

Yes, there is a discussion forum for microscopists to ask technical questions on the use of electron microscopes and materials characterization. To join the discussion group, this form must be filled. Please note that the Forum is hosted on Microsoft Teams, so access to Microsoft Teams is needed to join the forum. Also, you will manually be added to the forum by the network coordinator, so a delay is possible. If the delay seems unreasonable, please send an email to rqmem@usherbrooke.ca.

What is the purpose of the RQMEM?
