Ion Miller
Applications :
Hitachi IM4000 Plus is a high-performance ion polishing system designed to prepare flawless samples for scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and advanced microanalysis. USing a wide argon ion beam, the system produces clean, stress-free surfaces that accurately reveal the internal structure of materials, without the mechanical damage typical of traditional polishing. This hybrid instrument offers two main modes : Cross-Section Milling for making deep, precise cuts in specific areas of interest, and Flat Milling which uses grazing-angle rotation to polish large areas and eliminate existing artifacts.
Ion milling is a stress free physical process in which the atoms are ejected from the target material due to being bombarded with energized particles. Works for hard materials as well as "soft" materials like paper, polymers or powders.
